Premier League rivals Tottenham and Chelsea have both held talks with RB Salzburg over a swoop for midfield maestro Amadou Haidara this summer, according to France Football.

The reputable French publication claim that the London counterparts have both been in touch with the Austrian title winners, as well as RB Leipzig, who are hunting a replacement for Liverpool-bound Naby Keita this summer.

The 20-year-old Mali international, who has three caps for his country, scored eight goals and chipped in with 10 assists in 55 appearances, helping his side win the Austrian top flight title, as well as reach the final of the national cup and the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Good move for Tottenham?

The centre of the pitch is one area where Spurs fans would say they are pretty well stocked, so unless someone is on the way out it seems strange Mauricio Pochettino would be actively hunting a new recruit.

Still, he might bring something Spurs have been lacking from their midfield in recent months, with a creativity and attacking drive that the likes of Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama simply fail to offer.

At 20 he has a lot of growing to do but has already been a regular at the top of one European league, and it may be time for him to make the step up to the Premier League.

How good a move it is may well depend on the sort of asking price Salzburg are demanding, and if he can be secured for a reasonable fee then it should be a smart swoop by Spurs.

Likely to happen?

With Chelsea and Leipzig in the hunt, Tottenham are going to have their work cut out over getting a deal done any time soon.

A move to the German Bundesliga might suit him more at this moment, being close to Austria and sharing a similar sort of football heritage, but if he truly wants to test himself week in, week out, then the Premier League is the move for him.
