Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has seemingly quashed reports suggesting that he could be off to Real Madrid this summer.

Spurs’ manager only signed a new five-year deal at White Hart Lane at the back end of May but there was speculation that his new contract contained a clause which would allow the 46-year-old to leave if either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid came in for him.

However, while at a promotion for his book titled ‘A New World’, the Argentinian manager stated that there was bound to be speculation but that he was content with the Lilywhites.

As quoted in Football.London he said: “The link now with Madrid is normal and I take it with all normality. I’m committed to Spurs and still have a long contract with them I just signed.

“I’m happy where I am.”

OPINION:

This would seem to put an end to all the rumours circulating that Poch is about to hot-foot it to the Champions League winners – although things quickly change in football. Clearly he is committed and clearly he is happy – why would he want to leave a steady job in north London, for what is notoriously a demanding and short-lived position at the Bernabeu. At 46, Pochettino is still a young manager and would probably want to win some silverware at Spurs before he takes on a job as big as the one at Los Blancos. Without winning trophies, how can he stand in front of the Galacticos demanding and commanding respect from those players? He will bide his time in North London until he has the credentials which will make him a manager who cannot be questioned in the dressing room by the biggest of stars. The Tottenham manager is young and has plenty of time left in the game to get to the top – why rush?
