Tottenham’s hopes of signing the France international Anthony Martial have taken a huge bombshell as Manchester United have slapped a stunning £75million price tag on the 22-year-old, reports the Mirror.

The newspaper reported on their website that United are desperate for the France international to stay at Old Trafford, and have bumped his price-tag off as to put off any potential bids.

Although no official bid has been tabled, Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the forward, but the report states that the asking price set by the Red Devils is beyond what the Lilywhites are willing to spend.

It is also claimed that Martial wants out of Manchester United, having rejected his club’s advances with a new contract offer.

OPINION

The Mirror reports that United’s valuation of Martial is going to put Tottenham off, as they cannot afford £75million. This is a major boost for United, who are desperate to hang on to the wantaway forward for the foreseeable future. Tottenham must now look to other options to bolster their attacking lines, and the extent of their scouting will now be tested. The 22-year-old does not want to continue his career at Old Trafford, as the rise of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard have seen his playing time decreased over recent seasons. However, even though Tottenham was a viable option for the Frenchman, his playing time in London also could have been limited with Mauricio Pochettino’s stacked attacking corps, which boasts a number of international calibre players. It is thought that PSG and Real Madrid are also interested in Martial, and both of these teams would be able to offer more playing time, but it is unlikely that any move will happen, due to financial fair play regulations. Martial, despite not signing a new contract, looks set to be staying where he is, where he will have to get his head down if he is to rekindle his promising international career.
