The agent of Tottenham superstar Christian Eriksen has confirmed that the midfield maestro is at the centre of a multi-club transfer battle for his signature this summer.

The Danish star has been one of Spurs’ most important players and was a mainstay in the starting XI last season with 47 appearances across all competitions, which saw him score 14 goals and chip in with a further 13 assists.

However, it appears that the 26-year-old, who is said by the London Evening Standard to be on a £70,000-a-week contract in north London, fine form has attracted the attention of some potential suitors with two years left on his current deal with the Lilywhites.

His agent, Martin Schoots, was quoted by the London Evening Standard as saying: “The only thing I can say is that concerning the interest of several clubs in Christian is that we prefer not to comment.

“Christian wants to focus completely on the World Cup – just as he did before on qualifying for the Champions League with Spurs.”

Opinion

Eriksen’s agent might not have said a lot about the interest but he gave enough away to suggest there are numerous clubs in the hunt for the Danish star’s capture. That should come as no surprise considering his outstanding consistency over the past couple of years but prising him away from Tottenham is another matter entirely. He seems pretty happy and settled at the club and although he might not be earning as much as he could be elsewhere, that is likely to change over the coming months. Mauricio Pochettino has put pen to paper on a new deal and now it is time for some of the senior stars to follow suit, and Eriksen will no doubt be near the top of that list. If Spurs do not start challenging for titles soon, then his future might be up in the air, but for now he is one of their most important players and there will be a desperation to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.
