Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is desperate to leave the club on loan this summer with crunch talks with Rafael Benitez scheduled, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 21-year-old shot stopper has a growing list of suitors as a result of his performances with England’s under-20 side as the Three Lions won their third consecutive Toulon Tournament, to add to those eyeing his swoop before the summer competition.

It is stated that the 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt) giant himself, who has one appearance for Newcastle’s senior side, is keen to head back out on loan after spending the second half of last season out at Aberdeen, and that he will have no shortage of options when he holds crucial discussions on his return to pre-season.

Good move for Newcastle?

Woodman might be one of the highest rated young talents to come through the system at St James’ Park but the likelihood of much game time next season is low.

Martin Dubravka, Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow are all battling for a place between the sticks and while one of those names might be leaving if the right offer comes in, it will still leave the young shot stopper third in line.

His desperation for first team action will be supported by Rafael Benitez, who will want his prodigal talent developing as quickly as possible, and it may just be a case of where the pair agree would be best for his future as to where he ends up.

Likely to happen?

Absolutely.

Woodman’s exit on loan seems one of the few things that be classed as a certainty this summer, and only a huge bombshell in the goalkeeping department would see him remain on Tyneside.
