Real Madrid ace Marco Asensio has spoken out about his future, after it was reported by Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo that Liverpool made a blockbuster £158million bid to sign him.

Jurgen Klopp could be regarding the Spanish ace as a long-term replacement to Philippe Coutinho, who moved to Barcelona in January.

However, Asensio has been quick to speak out since being linked with a move to Anfield, stating that there are no irons in the fire at least until after the World Cup has finished.

“Obviously this is something in the media, but I will not speak about it now,” the Real Madrid star told AS, as translated by Football Espana.

“When the World Cup is over, then it will be time to talk about these things, about my own future.”

OPINION

Asensio is playing his cards very close to his chest it seems, perhaps as to take away any unwanted media attention or speculation when his country Spain are in the middle of a crucial World Cup. The Real Madrid ace would be a wonderful addition for Liverpool, and he is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in World Football right now. Klopp must be licking his lips at these comments, as Asensio states he must think about his future. Liverpool could be a viable output for the young forward, and it is likely that the Reds could offer Asensio a much larger squad role than he currently gets in Madrid. This could go a long way for his progression, and would also boost Liverpool’s chances of competition success. However, the sticking point could be Madrid’s desire to keep Asensio, and the reported sum is looking to be upwards of ¢200million, which roughly converts to £176million. It would be hard-pressed to imagine that Liverpool can find this sort of money, especially after having spent so big in recent transfer windows. The transfer, if completed, would be a monumental one in terms of Liverpool’s history. Yet it seems we’ll have to wait until after the World Cup to see where Asensio wants to play.
