Liverpool are in the hunt to sign Nigerian winger Moses Simon from Gent, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper’s website report that boss Jurgen Klopp is prepared to join the race to get the 5″5′ (source: Transfermarkt) youngster on the books from the side that finished fourth in Belgium’s top flight, in order to boost his attacking options for next season and provide support to star striker Mo Salah.

The 22-year-old contributed six goals and three assists for Gent in the 2017/2018 campaign, and is said to be up for a price of around £10 million after being scouted by the Merseyside club, with the speed machine having suffered heartbreak at being left out of Nigeria’s squad for the World Cup.

Good move for Liverpool?

The Nigerian is known to play down both wings, so could provide that extra service to both Salah and Sadio Mane in the hunt for more goals next season.

At 22, he is still young, but the opportunity to play with one of the Premier League’s most prolific strikers could help him gain the experience he needs to shine in such a competitive league.

After netting six goals for his club last season, Klopp knows that he is capable of contributing to the goal tally, helping Liverpool mount a serious title challenge next season.

Simon missed out on making Nigeria’s World Cup squad last week, which should make him even more determined to show off his talent at a top level club.

The winger would make a very welcome addition to a team that was infamous for their attacking prowess last season.

Likely to happen?

Following Simon’s World Cup heartbreak, he would be more willing than ever to push through a move to Liverpool.

The Gent man is just what Klopp needs to increase the strength of his squad, and what a better way to do it than sign a winger who is capable of playing on either side.

All Klopp needs to do now is fend off interest from the likes of Brighton, and bring Simon to Anfield.
