Liverpool are keeping tabs on AS Roma goalkeeper Matteo Cardinali in this summer’s transfer window, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian sports website reports that Liverpool are looking to sign the 17-year-old along with the likes of Arsenal, who are also said to be casting a watchful eye on the young shot-stopper, while Bundesliga outfit RB Salzburg are among the potential suitors along with the two Premier League clubs.

The goalkeeper currently stars for Roma’s Under 17’s squad, and has reportedly been scouted by all three clubs who have the intention of nurturing the stopper before he has the chance to star for their respective first teams.

Good move for Liverpool?

It remains to be seen seeming as Cardinali is so young and not much has actually been seen of him. However, an investment in his services does appear to be a good move by Liverpool, who are obviously preparing for the long-term due to his age.

He is not likely to get near the first team any time soon, but fast-forward a couple of years and he is sure to burst onto Liverpool’s goalkeeping scene.

Likely to happen?

Quite possibily. The teenager is also a subject of interest from Arsenal who are likely to battle it out with the Reds to land the young goalie, so time will tell whether he will move to Anfield.

Wherever the youngster ends up, he will still likely be in the hands of a Premier League club – but Klopp may be more eager to complete a deal, which will be a step towards solving the club’s current keeper crisis.
