Everton have made a bid for French defender Jerome Roussillon, according to Euro United.

The French news outlet that is affiliated with Paris United, who have a history of breaking big stories in France, claim on their Twitter account that both The Toffees and Leicester City have made bids for the French left-back, who plays for Montpellier in France.

The report also claims that other European clubs hold an interest in the in-demand 25-year-old, including AS Monaco, Fenerbahce and Sevilla.

It is understood that the player himself would prefer to move to a club that is involved in European competition – which could prove to be a hurdle for the Toffees after a disappointing 2017/18 campaign.

Good move for Everton?

Absolutely. Everton need to start thinking about replacing long-serving left-back Leighton Baines, as the former Wigan defender will be coming towards the end of his career over the next few years.

This reported bid for defender Roussillon is good news for Toffees fans, with the club obviously planning ahead and not panic buying later on down the line.

Roussillon made 25 appearances in all competitions for Montpellier in Ligue 1 last season, scoring three and assisting three from his left-back position, as the French side finished in a respectable 10th place position.

Likely to happen?

The fact that the 25-year-old would rather go to a club involved in European competition is obviously a massive sticking point, made even difficult by the reported interest from other big European clubs.

They should try everything to get the deal done but if Marco Silva fails to land his target, he should turn his attention to Kieran Gibbs from West Brom, who would be a great addition at Goodison Park.
