Premier League rivals Everton and Leicester have both tabled offers to snap up Montpellier defender Jerome Roussillon this summer, according to Euro United.

The Twitter account, an associate account of the established insider website Paris United, claim that the pair of English sides have both submitted bids for the 25-year-old flyer after his impressive performances across the Channel.

The left back, who stands at 5’7″ (source: Transfermarkt) scored three goals and contributed another three assists for his team mates during his 25 appearances across all competitions, which has reportedly resulted in a transfer battle across Europe.

It is stated that as well as the Toffees and the Foxes, Monaco, Fenerbahce and Sevilla are all keen on his capture.

Good move for Everton?

Leighton Baines will not be around forever, and it is about time that the Toffees start looking for a long term replacement.

Roussillon has been a regular in Ligue 1 for the last couple of years but only now is he starting to catch the eye with his performances, which begs the question as to whether he really has improved enough for the Premier League, or whether he just had a good campaign.

Imports from France can be somewhat hit and miss, but so long as there is not a big-money price tag attached to the move, this looks like it could be a solid, if unspectacular, capture.

Likely to happen?

Everton might have stolen the march over some of their European rivals but Leicester seem to be matching them stride for stride in this hunt.

With an offer on the table, it is up to Montpellier to accept or reject the approach, before getting down to the nitty gritty of his contract.

Everton have a chance, but it is by no means an easy deal to pull off.
