West Ham are eyeing up a swoop to bring AZ Alkmaar striker Wout Weghorst, according to RTV Oost.

The Dutch broadcaster reports on their website that the 25-year-old has emerged as a transfer target for Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini, with Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg also tracking the Dutch goal-machine.

Pellegrini is looking to revamp his current squad since his arrival and Weghorst, who stands at a giant 6’5″ (source: Transfermarkt) has been attracting his attention through his prolific goal-scoring record in the Dutch top-flight, with 27 goals across all competitions last season.

His form rewarded him with three recent performances for Holland’s national team, who failed to make this year’s World Cup – but he has admitted that he wants to leave AZ Alkmaar this summer, who finished third in the Eredivisie.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes, absolutely. Weghorst has been on fire for his club last season, netting 27 goals in 37 appearances, which is a prolific goal-scoring record that has suprisingly not caught the attention of the big-spending clubs.

Weghorst partnering Mexican ace Javier Hernandez up front would be a lethal combination for West Ham, who would most certainly push much higher up the table with the goals they are capable of scoring between them.

At 6’5″,  he would make a towering presence in the Hammers’ strike force that would put fear into any opponent.

Likely to happen?

At the moment, no. West Ham have only identified Weghorst has one of their transfer targets, and no negotiations have actually been made over a move.

He would be a stunning coup should the Hammers land him, as the club look to spend big this summer to bring in high-calibre players.

However, Weghorst will soon catch the attention of over Premier League clubs given his goal tally, and West Ham must move fast to secure his services.
