Former Everton forward David Hennen will train with Belgian side Antwerp after he was released by the Toffees, a reliable journalist has revealed.

Kristof Terreur, who is a respected Belgian journalist, released the news by means of his personal Twitter account on Monday afternoon.

Henen made the move to Goodison Park from Olympiacos back in 2015, but never made a senior team appearance for the Toffees.

The Belgium under-21 international never made an impact during his time at Everton, and did not look convincing during his loan spell at Fleetwood town during the 2015/16 season.

It is understood to deal has been agreed between the 22-year-old and European club Antwerp, but Henen is expected to train with the side on Monday evening.

OPINION

David Henen never lived up to the hype surrounding him when he first joined Everton on loan back in 2014. The Belgian did not feature once for the first-team, but was still signed on a permanent basis in 2015 from Olympiacos. This was expected to happen, as new Toffees boss Marco Silva was tasked with reducing the squad heavily, meaning that young fringe player stood almost no chance of landing a place in his team. However, it is not all doom and gloom for the promising attacker, as he now has himself a trial ahead of a potential move to Antwerp, where he may find himself much more comfortable. In this new environment, the 22-year-old could flourish, if he is lucky enough to land himself a deal. Yet one thing is certain, the striker never made a case for Everton to resign him, his torrid loan spell at Fleetwood produced one goal, and he never impressed enough to make an Everton first team appearance. Silva could have dodged a bullet with that release.
