Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles in talks with Getafe

|

Everton could be set to lose the services of Joel Robles this summer as he is currently in talks with Spanish side Getafe, according to the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail reported the news during their live transfer blog on Tuesday afternoon [01:07pm], stating that Getafe see Robles as a replacement for their current keeper, Vicente Guaita, who is expected to sign with Crystal Palace in the coming days.

Prior to the arrival of current England number one goalie Jordan Pickford, Robles had been a trusted servant at Goodison Park, racking up 42 appearances since arriving in 2013.

Good move for Everton?

Yes.

Jordan Pickford’s arrival almost certainly spelt the end for Robles, who had been in a battle with his goal-keeping colleague Maarten Stekelenburg for minutes beforehand.

This move will allow the talented Spaniard to play some more regular football, and take a chunk out of the wage bill as well; it is likely that should any deal be completed, Stekelenburg will serve solely as the number two spot.

Robles did not feature for Everton at all last season in the Premier League and only featured twice in European competition, his lowest amount of appearances since joining the club.

Likely to happen?

Robles never made a true impact for Everton, and could never tie down the number one spot completely. During his four seasons at Goodison Park, the 27-year-old only ever managed to make a maximum of 24 appearances during a single season.

It seems as though his time is done, meaning that its a matter of when he leaves and not if. This name could be the first in a long list that new Toffees boss Marcov Silva has to say goodbye to, as he builds his own team from scratch.

Getafe will need a new keeper, should the deal for Guaita to Palace go through, and Robles seems the perfect replacement for them.
