Arsenal are on the verge of signing Sampdoria playmaker Lucas Lucas Torreira, after the club’s president has stated the Uruguayan has left the club.

Speaking on Italian TV, as quoted by the Independent, Massimo Ferrero stated that the Italian giants received an offer of €30million, roughly converting to £26.3million.

“Torreiraleft for 30m euro. I bought him from Pescara when no one believed in him. We placed a bet and we won, paying just 3m euro.”

The Uruguayan is on duty at the World Cup in Russia, and could be unveiled as an Arsenal player once the tournament has finished.

Good move for Arsenal?

Absolutely.

Torreira is a fine player, and is incredibly hard working. His aggressive style of play both attacking and defending will be invaluable to Unai Emery, having just lost Jack Wilshere.

The Gunners midfield is not stacked, and Torreira is likely to slide into a starting role, as Emery looks to put his stamp on things post-Arsene Wenger.

The price reported is not extortionate, and will not lead to a great amount of expectation from the get-go, which could make life in London a lot easier for the Uruguay international.

Likely to happen?

Definitely.

Arsenal have been chasing his signature for a while now, and with the President admitting to his departure, it seems almost a certainty that he is the newest Gunner.

The Arsenal faithful can now sit back and enjoy the World Cup, watching Torreira thrive as it is likely that Uruguay will progress from their group.
