Ahead of his exit from Arsenal, midfielder Jack Wilshere has been invited to Turkish capital Istanbul for talks with Fenerbahce, according to Turkish-Football.

The Turkish news site claims that European club Fenerbahce are ready to offer Wilshere, 26, a long-term deal that exceeds what he earns on his current deal at the Emirates, which is due to expire at the end of June.

Wilshere has opted to leave the Emirates after a 10-year association with the club, due to a disagreement with Unai Emery over Wilshere’s squad role.

The midfield ace would not have been a first-team regular under Emery, so opted not to extend his contract at Arsenal.

OPINION

Wilshere is going to attract a large sum of football teams, many of whom will be abroad. Fenerbahce are a great team, and would offer Wilshere a much larger squad role than could Arsenal for the coming season. However, it seems unlikely that Wilshere would opt to move abroad instead of staying in London, and it is obvious that he will not be short of domestic offers. West Ham are a team who have been constantly linked with a move for the midfielder, and should any concrete offers come to fruition, it seems hard-pressed that Wilshere would opt to move away, as an example. The 26-year-old must find himself a team that can offer him regular game time, to improve his chances of reigniting Gareth Southgate’s interest in him, after he was snubbed of the World Cup. Wilshere could simply be in Istanbul on holiday, however, it certainly is an interesting spot.
