New Arsenal boss Unai Emery is to hold talks with Jack Wilshere today (Sunday), proposing a new contract at The Emirates, reports The Sun.

Wilshere is reported to have received a contract offer at Juventus, but the former PSG boss Emery is keen to keep the England international in London.

The Sun claimed on Saturday night that Wilshere will be asked to take a 25 per cent pay cut to stay at Arsenal, £30,000 less per week than what he was earning last season.

It is thought that Emery will try to lure the creative midfielder back to the club with his vision for Arsenal’s future.

OPINION

Jack Wilshere is a talented player. Emery could use his creative presence in his midfield, and his Premier League experience will be invaluable to the Spanish boss. The one sticking point to this deal could be the temptation to join Serie A side Juventus, who could offer Wilshere more money, and at face value, it would appear easier to win trophies in Italy. However, the 26-year-old will be itching to prove himself to England boss Gareth Southgate following his surprising World Cup emission, and the Premier League is a proven battleground for players to earn international call-ups. Wilshere was earning a reported £120,000 per week on his former contract, and it is unlikely that Emery will offer him similar money to that. The midfielder has always been a controversial figure that splits opinion, but his willingness to play football is clear, as evidenced by his loan spell at Bournemouth. Emery’s chances of a swift reboot will be boosted should he land the 26-year-old, who still has time on his side.
