Arsenal manager Unai Emery is in the hunt to sign Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega and is due to hold talks with the Spanish La Liga side in the coming days, according to a Gazetto dello Sport journalist.

Nicolo Schira, who regularly breaks transfer stories, claimed on his official Twitter account that the new Gunners boss is an admirer of the Argentinian international and wants to work on a deal that will see Banega arrive at the  Emirates this summer.

The central midfielder, who can also play in a more advanced role was integral to the La Liga club’s progression in the Champions League this season as they eliminated Manchester United on their way to the quarter-finals where they were knocked out by Bayern Munich.

Good move for Arsenal?

The Gunners are being linked with some impressive names in this transfer window and yet aside from the signing of Swiss international Stephan Lichtsteiner, there hasn’t been a whole lot of action on the confirmed front.

Banega is one of those impressive names having starred for Sevilla this season following his move from Inter Milan last summer.

Similar to the potential signing of Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira after a deal was reported in The Guardian to be close, in that he is exactly what the new club are crying out for, were he just a few years younger than 29, he would be the perfect signing.

Likely to happen?

Banega only signed for Sevilla last summer and is under contract to the Andalusian club until 2020 but we still think that with Emery’s connections to the Spanish side and the fact that he will be set on impressing the Gunners faithful ahead of his debut season he will go all out to make this happen so we think this is a likely deal.
