Leeds United defender Tom Pearce is set to agree terms on a new contract at the club after he finishes his duty for England at the Toulon Tournament this summer, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reporter, who has established himself as one of the most reliable sources covering events at Elland Road, allayed fans’ fears via his personal Twitter account by confirming the left back, who was a revelation in the first team last season, will be putting pen to paper over the coming weeks.

Pearce’s current contract is set to expire this summer, leaving him as a free agent, and it appears as though the Leeds faithful have been baffled by his situation, with journalist Pete O’Rourke having claimed back in May that he had agreed to a new deal but no official announcement coming from the club.

The 20-year-old is currently with England’s under-21s at the annual Toulon Tournament, which England are bidding to retain after picking up the title 12 months ago.

Hay’s word is gospel at Elland Road and the Leeds fans will be relieved to hear that it is not too long until they see that Pearce has officially put pen to paper on a new contract. The youngster was one of a handful of youth graduates who established themselves in the first team last season, breaking ahead of more established stars and doing their causes no harms with some pretty impressive performances in the Championship. It is likely that his emergence as a first team option slightly changed the direction that contract talks went in, hence the delay, but it is great news for the club that they are on the brink of tying him down when his future looked up in the air and Premier League sides circling. Now it is time for him to kick on after his time with England and make sure that he remains in the plans of the new man in the Leeds dugout.
