Aston Villa have been handed a fresh bombshell amid their ongoing financial crisis with former chief Keith Wyness launching a legal case for constructive dismissal, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper report that the ex-chief executive, who was suspended by the midlands side earlier this week, has now officially departed the club, with his role as a director on the board also coming to a premature end.

However the dismissal has seen Wyness make a stunning move to try and sue the Villans in a court case which could cost the Championship outfit up to £6million, which is a huge sum coming in the midst of their current monetary issues, with both financial fair play and HMRC issues to contend with.

Opinion

Things are just getting worse and worse for Villa and Wyness’ actions will no doubt feel like a knife in the back. He will know exactly just how much trouble the club are in right now and so to launch a potentially multi-million pound case against them simply pushes them deeper into the mire. The likes of Tony Xia must come up with some sort of immediate plan which will help keep their heads above water and prevent them sinking into a black hole of debt. It is a sad sight for one of English football’s oldest and most prestigious clubs but it just highlights the power that money has on the game – and what happens if you do not manage your financial situation carefully. The Villans gambled on making a return to the Premier League and their failure to see off Fulham in the play offs seems to have condemned them to a fate which leaves their future hanging in the balance.
