West Ham have agreed terms with Barcelona to sign defender Marlon for a fee worth £13.1million, according to reliable journalist Albert Roge.

The Diario Sport reporter claimed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night that Marlon, 22, is heading to the London Stadium after the Hammers and Barca agreed a fee with one another for the Brazil Under-23s international.

Marlon now appears as though he will be the first signing made by recently-appointed West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini, who has wasted no time in reaching out to a fellow South America to add to the squad.

Good move for West Ham?

Marlon was on loan at Nice this season, appearing 27 times across all competitions – which is not a lot considering the amount of football that Nice actually played due to their Europa League campaign.

At 5ft 10in tall, he is not exactly the tallest of centre-backs either, so would he be able to cope with the physical nature of the Premier League?

The journalist who broke this story claims that the £13.1million fee is good business for Barcelona, which makes it sound like West Ham have overpaid for the centre-back.

Likely to happen?

It just seems as though it’s a matter of time before Marlon is jetting into the UK to sign his deal and undergo a medical.

Pellegrini won’t want to wait around before making improvements this summer due to the World Cup and the shortened transfer window.

It would not be a shock to see this deal done by the end of the week.
