Celtic are in the hunt to sign Tottenham centre-forward Reo Griffiths, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Saturday [07:29pm] that Juventus, Barcelona and Roma are also keeping close tabs on the prolific 17-year-old, who may quit North London if Spurs fail to meet his contract demands.

Griffiths has been in lethal form at youth level this season, scoring 34 goals across all competitions for the Under-18s.

Good move for Celtic?

Griffiths is a very highly-rated young striker and would be a brilliant addition at Parkhead if Brendan Rodgers is able to fend off competition from some of Europe’s biggest hitters.

Although it was at Under-18s level, Griffiths has proven that he has a real eye for goal and if he can stand out in the Tottenham academy set-up, then he is bound to have a very promising career.

The Hoops probably won’t have to pay a lot for Griffiths as he is yet to earn his first professional contract at Spurs, so there is little risk in signing a player who could instantly be on the fringes of the first team.

Likely to happen?

Although Celtic are perhaps the most likely club to be able to offer Griffiths a clear route to the first team squad, there’s little chance that Rodgers will be able to tempt him to move to Glasgow over Rome, Barcelona or Turin.

Even staying at Spurs could be a more attractive option for the 17-year-old.

The England youth international has huge potential and it would be a real shock to see him sign for Celtic this summer.
