Jamie Barjonas has dropped a major hint that attacker Grant Nelson has left Rangers with a post on Instagram.

Nelson, 19, is a product of the Gers academy, but it seems that he will never get the chance to break into the senior side like Barjonas has as the promising midfielder sent a goodbye message to him.

Writing on his Instagram story on his personal account, Barjonas said: “Good luck to my brother, been together 10 years, will be missed Granty boy.”

Nelson’s young career did not get off to the best start a few years ago when a serious injury saw him sidelined for a year and a half.

However even though he has since recovered, it appears that is the end of his spell at Ibrox.

It just goes to show how tough it is to make it as a footballer. For every youth product that makes the first team, hundreds more are released and slip into obscurity. There’s a chance that Nelson’s injury problems have stunted his development and led to the Light Blues taking the decision to release him. Hopefully he is picked up by a decent team and is able to make a break through there. Rangers are yet to announce their retained list for the summer and there’s a chance that there will be more to follow Nelson out of the doors. Barjonas won’t be one of them though as he is tied down at Ibrox until 2020 after breaking into the senior squad. Hopefully Steven Gerrard gives youngsters like him more of a chance given his experience of coaching youth players. The Gers Under-20s squad is decked with top talent with Serge Atakayi and Glenn Middleton among the best.
