Rangers manager Steven Gerrard and director of football Mark Allen look set to continue strengthening the squad by signing domestic players in the summer transfer window that have close ties to the Glasgow club.

One player that the Gers must definitely try to sign is boyhood supporter George Byers, who would surely jump at the chance to quit relegated Swansea in order to move to Ibrox.

Byers, 21, has been in stunning form for Swansea’ Under-23s team this season and would certainly be a brilliant addition to the Rangers squad.

He is best played in the No 10 role behind a centre-forward and scored nine goals and supplied eight goals in Premier League 2 this term, earning himself Swansea’s Under-23s player of the year award.

Byers is fanatical about Rangers and even the header on his personal Twitter account is an image related to the Gers, while he also visited Hampden Park earlier this season to watch the club alongside Oli McBurnie.

Byers should not be on Rangers’ radar just because he supports the club.

The Scotland Under-21 international has immense quality and potential and would be a seriously good signing for Gerrard and Allen to make.

He could soon develop into one of the best attacking midfielders in the Scottish Premiership and would soon enough get teams in England looking to sign him up for a bigger fee than what the Light Blues paid for him.

Rangers will have to move fast to sign Byers though as the Swans confirmed on their official website earlier this week that the goalscoring midfielder has been offered a fresh deal with his current contract due to expire this summer.

If Allen can hijack Swansea and offer Byers the chance to move to Govan, he will surely accept the increased likelihood of first team football, as well as the chance to play for his boyhood club.
