Rangers can get one over their Glasgow city rivals by getting their hands on Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara this summer.

According to a report in The Scottish Sun, both Celtic and the Light Blues are in the hunt for the defensive destroyer who has impressed in his debut season north of the border, despite the fact that his side finished down in ninth place in the Scottish Premiership.

After Dark Blues manager Neil McCann confirmed that talks were underway with the player to extend his contract, he also admitted that the 22-year-old could be sold in the transfer window if the right money came along – Steven Gerrard should act on that admittance alone to capture the midfield enforcer.

Kamara signed from Arsenal last summer on a two-year deal, but with the defensive midfield position not being held down by any one squad member at Ibrox, there is room for improvement in the slot with Graham Dorrans a long-term absentee and Andy Halliday thought to be close to an exit.

The Gers have already been busy in the transfer market after signing Scott Arfield, Alan McGregor and making the deal for Jamie Murphy a permanent one  – Kamara would be another piece of the jigsaw.

Rangers cannot and should not pass up on an opportunity to trump their city rivals to a signing that can significantly strengthen them – and if the Hoops are keen on snapping him up, then it proves he has what it takes to challenge at the very top of Scottish football, exactly where the Light Blues are aiming to be.
