Celtic defender Sam Wardrop has agreed terms to join Dundee United, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Terrors have agreed a deal to sign Wardrop, 20, as they aim to win the Scottish Championship title next season.

The right-back failed to make a single senior appearance for Celtic and spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Dumbarton, where he played 27 times across all competitions and scored one goal.

Good move for Celtic?

Wardrop clearly doesn’t have much of a future at Parkhead so it makes sense for him to move on now.

Dundee United will surely challenge for the Championship title next season and it will be great experience to be part of that title challenge and try to earn his way into becoming a Premiership player.

Celtic probably will not be getting much of a fee but because the 20-year-old is so far down the pecking order, it’s best for all parties to go their separate ways.

Likely to happen?

It looks as though most of the major details have been finalised already and Celtic and Wardrop have both agreed deals with United so it’s fair to say that this deal looks set to go through at some point.

Anthony Ralston had a good impact while on loan at Tannadice so the Terrors definitely need a new right-back signed up for next season.

Wardrop has experience in the Championship from his spell at Dumbarton and he also has the experience of playing alongside other quality young players at Parkhead.

Dundee United definitely need Wardrop and this deal does seem as though it will go through soon.
