Sviatchenko admits doubts over Celtic future

|

Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko has admitted that he does not know what the future holds for him when he returns to Parkhead from his loan at FC Midtjylland.

Sviatchenko, 26, moved to Midtjylland on loan in January after appearing just two times in all competitions in the first half of the Hoops’ treble-winning season.

The centre-back, who signed for the Bhoys in 2016, won the Danish title while out on loan, and now he admits that he is not sure about whether he will be remaining at Parkhead for next season, claiming that there are a lot of clubs that he would consider joining.

“Every club in the world is an option for me. I don’t know what will happen,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I won’t rule any club out and if Real Madrid call me, I am ready!

“I want to enjoy the celebrations, then my holiday and come to a decision after that.”

OPINION

Sviatchenko has had a strange time at Celtic. Some have rated him as the best centre-back at Parkhead while others were happy to see the back of him when he headed back to Denmark in January. The 26-year-old has suffered numerous injuries and cannot really be relied upon to play for a full season, so maybe it makes sense if Brendan Rodgers looks to cash in on the Dane for good this summer. Sviatchenko obviously enjoyed his loan spell at Midtjylland so there’s a chance that he could stay there permanently. He made 17 appearances across all competitions for the Danish champions and scored one goal as they lifted the Superligaen title. Midtjylland might be able to afford a permanent deal for Sviatchenko, however he probably is too good for Danish football and could settle for a decent move elsewhere in Europe or even down south in the English Championship. Rodgers needs to sort out his defence in the summer but with the high numbers of centre-backs now on the books, it seems likely that Sviatchenko will be one of those sold.
