Wolverhampton Wanderers must axe any plans they had to sign Leo Bonatini this summer and opt against exercising their option to buy the Hilal striker.

According to the Express and Star, Wolves were set on making the deal for the 24-year-old a permanent one.

The Brazilian only arrived at Molineux last summer on a year long loan deal.

However, despite hitting the ground running and becoming an instant hit amongst the Wolves faithful for scoring 12 goals in his first 20 games, the goals have not just dried up, they have stopped altogether.

In fact, Bonatini did not register again for the club following his last effort for Wolves back in December last year – an important goal in a 1-0 win against Birmingham City.

Perhaps if Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were a team that was struggling, the fact that the Brazilian went on a five-month goal-drought would have been understandable – but they were not.

Wolves have gone on to earn promotion to the Premier League as champions and in the top-flight they will need a goalscorer capable of scoring against some of the best defenders in the world.

Bonatini cannot even score against Championship class defenders which does not bode well for him should he remain at the club for the adventure into the elite game.

Any previous plans to make a deal permanent for the 24-year-old need to be axed and the club needs a higher quality player than the Brazilian.
