West Ham must beat off competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa for the signature of reported target Moussa Marega, for he is the man to take the club to the next level.

Portuguese media outlet Correio da Manhã state that the trio of clubs are all interested in the attacker.

Of the trio, it is the Hammers  who are the ones who have to go all out to win the battle over this transfer.

Not only will the Porto striker solve the club’s lack of firepower in front of goal, the Malian will add the excitement Hammers fans have been crying out for.

The Irons faithful have been critical of their board for the move to the London Stadium as well as sub-standard acquisitions.

Marega’s potential arrival at the club will show supporters that Davids Gold and Sullivan, along with Baroness Brady, really do mean business and want to take the club to the next level.

In front of goal, Marega has been sensationally prolific, netting 22 times in 29 games for Porto.

At the London Stadium, Marko Arnautovic was the Hammers top scorer and one of the main reason that the club struggled as they did was that they did not have the right player in attack.

David Moyes clearly did not fancy Javier Hernandez, while Andy Carroll was doing what Andy Carroll does best – precious little thanks to injury – so there was a huge void in the side.

Marega’s arrival would not only fill that void, it would be the signing that showed supporters the club wants what they want, which is to be a threat.
