West Ham co-owner David Gold can show supporters they are wrong by snapping up Fiorentina enforcer Milan Badelj this summer, with the player available on a free transfer.

Calcio Mercato have revealed that there have been two offers rejected by the Serie A side from England with West Ham named in the running.

The Hammers board have regularly been accused of being tight with the purse-strings in terms of transfer fees and wages by supporters but by capturing the Serie A defensive unit, they will be bagging a top-quality player who is available on a free transfer.

So while the board will not have to worry about stumping up a hefty transfer fee, they must compete with the Serie A side who are keen to keep the Croatian international by showing money is no object in their quest to land their target, and offering him a deal he cannot refuse.

After Gold stated on talkSPORT radio that this would likely be the window in which the most money would be spent ever on transfer, the co-owner has a big promise to live up to in order to keep fans happy.

With two bids already reportedly rejected for the midfield ball winner, the Hammers cannot hang around, and show the West Ham faithful they mean business.
