Leeds United must target Angus Gunn now after the player revealed that he will, “make the best decision for myself.”

Now surely the “best decision” will not be hanging around in the Manchester City reserves but gaining minutes in a competitive league.

Gunn admitted that a decision regarding his future needed to be made back in April when he told The Sun: “I have enjoyed this season but would obviously have preferred to be higher in the league. We had ambitions to go further but it has not happened.

“I will think about it long and hard and we will make the best decision for myself. I will always be thankful to everyone at Norwich for giving me this chance.”

The 6’4″ stopper has been exceptional between the sticks for the Canaries in the Championship this season, which has led to so much much speculation surrounding his future.

With Andy Lonergan reportedly set to exit the club and Felix Wiedwald deemed not good enough, there is a need for a quality stopper to not just provide back-up for current number one Bailey Peacock-Farrell, but to provide a real threat that should the 21-year-old allow his standards to drop, Gunn will be in there like a shot – pun intended.

Leeds will be desperate to ensure they do not suffer the same fate at this season next time around, and that starts with ensuring they are better covered to cope with injuries.

Youth worked so well for them, even in the harder times, where the young and hungry stars such as Tom Pearce, Paudie O’Connor and Peacock-Farrell came into the team to show they meant business, and Gunn can be a part of that.

But with Celtic also said sniffing around the stopper, Victor Orta has no time to waste – they must act now and ensure competition for places keeps everyone on their toes.
