Jan Vertonghen completed 90 minutes in the loss to Manchester City on Saturday night – and Tottenham fans still took to Twitter to praise him for his display.
The 30-year-old is considered by many the club’s player of the season, but even he was unable to prevent his side slip to their first league defeat of 2018 at the weekend.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team were beaten 3-1 at Wembley with goals from Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling doing the damage, while Christian Eriksen continued his form with another goal.
The North London club remain seven points above fifth-placed Chelsea and are still strong favourites to secure a Champions League spot ahead of them.
They also have an FA Cup semi-final on the horizon and will face Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in that tie.
Spurs fans on social media decided to highlight the performance of Vertonghen against Man City despite the defeat.
They feels that the ball-playing centre-back has been quality all season and he appeared to be the strong link of a shaky backline on Saturday.
He made a number of blocks and interceptions to keep Man City at bay, but they showed why they are now on the brink of winning the league crown.
