Newcastle United are in the hunt to sign attacker Franco Cervi from Portuguese giants Benfica, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Magpies, West Ham, Brighton and Swansea are all tracking the £20million-rated ace.

It is understood that the 23-year-old is keen on making a move to England in the summer despite playing a key role for Benfica, who are currently top of the top-flight table in Portugal.

The report details that the left-winger is seen as an alternative by Rafael Benitez if they fail to make Kenedy’s loan switch from Chelsea a permanent one.

Good move for Newcastle?

Newcastle need to continue improving their squad over the summer to help establish themselves back in the Premier League and Cervi would be a decent fit by the looks of it.

The Argentinian winger has lightening speed and is currently playing in an attractive Benfica team.

He has hipped in with four goals and 10 assists in just 34 appearances this campaign and really come into his own in the second half of the season.

The wide man has a brilliant range of skills and it would be a serious statement if Newcastle were to fork out a large eight-figure sum to sign him.

Likely to happen?

Newcastle face some fierce competition from some Premier League rivals if they are serious about signing Cervi and would need to cough up to afford him.

Benitez is still waiting to find out if the club will financially back him to spend big at the end of the season and securing a top-eight spot that is still well within their grasp may sway that decision.
