Celtic are in the hunt to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the Bhoys are lining up the the shot-stopper alongside Germany heavyweights RB Leipzig after he failed to agree a new contact at the Emirates.

It is understood that the 16-year-old has been offered a scholarship with a professional contract to follow when he turns 17, but no agreement has been reached.

The report details that Arsenal could now lose their highly-rated teenage sensation due to the contract stand-off, with club’s circling to snap him up.

Okonkwo is already a 6ft 5in colossus goalkeeper that has featured for the youth team of Premier League giants Arsenal, while also representing England at Under-17s level.

It is believed he is being tipped for a huge future in the game, but as it stands he may be able to walk away as a free agent in the summer.

Good move for Celtic?

Celtic already have an array of talented options in goal in their first-team squad and Okonkwo is still a player for the future.

His involvement in the England set-up and place at Arsenal is impressive, but it’s still far too young to delve into his potential success later down the line.

He should certainly not be a priority for Brendan Rodgers’ side and they need to be focused on improving in Europe.

Likely to happen?

The report states that Okonkwo would prefer to remain in North London, which makes his whole contract situation a bit odd.

It seems unlikely that Celtic will swoop in for the talented youngster and he would only link straight up with the academy at Parkhead if he joined.
