BBC pundit Tam McManus has slammed Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos for his poor attitude following their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

Goals from Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor got Celtic on their way in the first-half before Ross McCrorie was sent off with Moussa Dembele converting the resulting penalty, and Olivier Ntcham sealed the rout with another spot-kick.

Rangers striker Morelos was anonymous for much of the match, and was involved in a spat at the final whistle with teammate Greg Docherty, with the two exchanging angry words.

Former Hibs star-turned-pundit McManus has now questioned the Colombian’s attitude, slammed him for failing to put the team over himself, and highlighted a ‘dreadful’ incident involving the 21-year-old.

In a column for the Herald, McManus said: “Morelos has scored a lot of goals for Rangers but could and should have at least doubled the amount. He has missed some unbelievable chances. But what has concerned me is his attitude in some of the Rangers games when he hasn’t played well or scored.

“He seems to down tools and start to constantly moan and bicker at his team-mates. His reaction to Jason Cummings when he scored a hat trick against Falkirk in the Scottish Cup was dreadful.

“Strikers want to score every game. I did. But you need to play for the team. I would suggest that someone at Rangers has a word in his ear to tell him that what matters is the club winning games and trophies. Not how many goals he scores.”

OPINION

McManus’ assessment of Morelos is spot on here, with his poor attitude coming to the fore in Rangers’ 4-0 loss to Celtic on Sunday. The Colombian’s hunger for goals is admirable, and to be expected, but you can never let that come in the way of the team, which is what the 21-year-old seemingly fails to grasp. On top of his poor attitude is the fact that he reportedly cannot speak much English, which must create a divide between him and the rest of the squad. If one thing is for sure, it is that Morelos will leave Rangers this summer.
