Celtic and Rangers are both interested in signing Kilmarnock midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke is resigned to losing the 31-year-old defensive midfielder when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Daily Mail report that Rangers and Celtic aren’t the only Scottish clubs interested in Mulumbu as Aberdeen and Hibernian are also keeping tabs on the midfielder’s situation.

It is believed that after impressing in the Scottish Premier League this season and with his contract set to expire, there could be clubs in England that might consider making a move for him in the summer.

Mulumbu has scored one goal, while creating four, in 12 appearances for Kilmarnock during this campaign and has been a stand-out performer ever since joining Clarke’s side last November.

The 31-year-old, according to the Daily Mail’s report, nearly left Kilmarnock to join Bordeaux in January but a deal between the two clubs broke down.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes. Mulumbu would bring some much needed grit to the Gers’ current side.

The 31-year-old enforcer was let go by Norwich last summer, but has since proven himself to be a dominate force in the Scottish Premier League.

The Gers know that they will need to mount a serious league title challenge next season in order to keep their supporters happy and Mulumbu is just the man to help them.

Likely to happen?

Well Clarke doesn’t see Mulumbu staying at Kilmarnock, so he will definitely be on the move this summer.

The Daily Mail’s report states that the Gers are expected to face a significant turnover of players at the end of the season, so there’s no denying that they will be busy in the transfer market.

However with the Hoops potentially in the Champions League once against next season, the Gers’ bitter rivals may be too tempting of a prospect for Mulumbu to turn down.

Although Graeme Murty’s side will definitely be ahead of the other team’s mentioned in the race his signature.
