Celtic centre-back and January signing Marvin Compper has suffered another injury setback, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper report that the veteran German enforcer was ruled out of the Hoop’s 2-1 defeat to Hibernian last weekend through injury.

The Sun also claim that the 32-year-old was missing from first-team training at Lennoxtown on Friday as the club prepare for a potential title-deciding Old Firm clash against Rangers on Sunday.

Compper has made just one appearances for Celtic since joining for a fee of £1million from RB Leipzig in January, with a calf injury putting paid to his first-team chances.

That match came against Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup, with the enforcer managing to get through 83 minutes in a 3-0 win.

OPINION

What a blow for Compper as his injury nightmare in Glasgow continues. It was hoped when he signed that Compper would be able to come in and shore up Celtic’s defence, which has been dodgy this season, but injuries have delayed his chance to do so. It now looks unlikely that Compper will be able to force his way into Brendan Rodgers’ plans before the end of the season, and he will have to focus his efforts on getting ready for the next campaign and making his mark in Scotland then.
