Kris Commons has revealed that he believes it would be a harsh decision by Brendan Rodgers if he dropped goalkeeper Scott Bain from Celtic’s first-team.

The former Hoops midfielder shared that he thought that Bain had been impressive in the two appearances he has made so far, but wasn’t sure whether Rodgers would stick with him.

“If Brendan Rodgers has any doubts at all about Scott Bain, then Craig Gordon will come straight back into the Celtic side when ready,” said Commons, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“But if he has unstinting faith in Bain, Gordon will simply have to be patient, that’s just how it works.

“What Bain has done since he’s come in has been impressive, it would be very harsh for him to lose his place now but, as we know, Rodgers has always tinkered with his keepers.”

Boyd continued discussing the goalkeeping conundrum Rodgers now has at Celtic and stated that the “jersey is anyone’s” as there is not much between the goalkeepers at the club at this point.

The former Hoops player rounded off his thoughts on the club’s goalkeepers, by stating what it would all come down to.

“If Rodgers has that feeling about Bain then he should have no qualms about keeping him in goal,” stated Commons.

“If he has any doubts, there’s no question Gordon will come back in, but only when fully fit.”

OPINION

Rodgers has got a huge decision on his hands when Craig Gordon is deemed fully fit. The 35-year-old grandee has been the first-choice goalkeeper at Parkhead for many seasons now, and his performances earlier in the campaign didn’t warrant him being dropped anytime soon. Gordon only conceded 16 goals in 23 league games and kept 12 clean sheets in his outings. This clearly is not the form of a man who deserves to spend the rest of the campaign on the bench. However the Hoops manager cannot afford to drop Bain anytime soon. After an outstanding performance against Rangers, the 26-year-old looks confident and able to deal with any shot that will come at him. While Rodgers will hate having a selection headache, at least it’s a positive one.
