Mick Quinn has hailed a “cracking win” for Newcastle United on Twitter after they overcame Leicester City in the Premier League.

The Magpies picked up an impressive 2-1 away victory at the King Power Stadium and jumped up to 10th in the league standings as a result.

Rafael Benitez’s side are now 10 points clear of the relegation places and their incredible form of late has seemingly kept them in the top flight for another season.

Jonjo Shelvey opened the scoring for the visitors with a long-rang effort, something that will keep supporters calling for him to earn an England call-up.

Ayoze Perez then doubled the advantage with a superb chip over goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and he has now scored in two consecutive matches.

In-form Jamie Vardy did pull a late one back for the Foxes, but Newcastle held on to make it three wins in a row.

Quinn was ecstatic on social media after the win and feels that their top-flight status is now secured, while also hailing the two key goalscorer.

“Two lovely finishes from Shevley and Perez and it’s another cracking win for the Toon, Premier League 2018/19 here we come,” Quinn wrote on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Newcastle ended Leicester’s impressive league run at home at the weekend and it was no mean feat going to the King Power and earning three points. Benitez has managed to get a reaction out of his side at the perfect time of the season and they look safe this year. The recent run just highlights how key the manager is to the club and that they must keep him at St James’ Park for the foreseeable future. Newcastle could have a real fist at trying to return to their glory days if the club decide to fully back Benitez in the transfer window.
