West Ham United are eyeing up a summer swoop for West Bromwich Albion centre-back Craig Dawson, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper report that the Hammers are keeping tabs on Dawson with the Baggies looking nailed-on for relegation with just a few games left in the season.

The Mirror claim that West Brom are bracing themselves for bids for Dawson, who has been a key figure at the back for the club for several seasons now.

It is said that several Baggies players have relegation clauses in their contracts which will see their exit fee decrease by 40% if they go down, with Dawson possibly among that number.

Burnley and Wolves are also reported to be in the hunt for the 27-year-old.

Good move for West Ham?

There is no doubt that Dawson has been solid for West Brom, but is he the kind of player that will improve the Hammers?

David Moyes will be looking for his side to climb the table next season (should they avoid relegation themselves), and they will need to be bringing in players who will instantly improve their squad.

Dawson is a solid and versatile defender, but unfortunately the Hammers must aim higher if they want to avoid a relegation battle again next season.

Likely to happen?

It looks like Burnley are showing the most interest in Dawson so far, but the Hammers are well in the hunt.

Firstly, West Brom’s relegation must be confirmed, and then it will become more clear who may win the race for his signature.
