West Ham were comprehensively outplayed by champions Manchester City in a 4-1 loss at the London Stadium on Sunday, and fans have taken to Twitter to rip into midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate for a poor display.
Pep Guardiola’s side took just 12 minutes to open the scoring when Leroy Sane’s long shot deflected off Patrice Evra and wrong-footed goalkeeper Adrian.
The Hammers found themselves two goals down soon after when Kevin de Bruyne fired in a shot which Adrian saved onto the unlucky Pablo Zabaleta, who was credited with the own goal.
Aaron Cresswell gave David Moyes’ side brief hope at half-time when the left-back stepped up to curl a brilliant free-kick past Ederson and into the corner.
Any thoughts of getting back into the game after the break were however crushed when Gabriel Jesus slotted past Adrian following a nice move down the right through Raheem Sterling.
Fernandinho then got into the act when he side-footed home after 63 minutes, with the Hammers in damage limitation mode until the final whistle.
Fans took to Twitter after the match to destroy 28-year-old midfielder Kouyate, who continued his poor recent form with another below-par performance.
