Danny Murphy has revealed that he thinks West Ham goalkeeper Joe Hart will struggle to get back to playing at the top level.

The BBC pundit shared that while he thinks the 31-year-old keeper can do a good job for a lot of Premier League clubs, his ability with the ball at his feet will stop him playing for a top club.

“Three or four years ago, Hart was the goalkeeper every top club would have wanted but it is hard to see him getting back to the top level now,” wrote Murphy in his column for the London Evening Standard.

“Hart is by no means terrible with the ball at his feet but Ederson, his long-term replacement at City, is exceptional, so is David De Gea at Manchester United, and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris.

“If a top club is scouting two evenly-matched keepers but one is clearly better with his feet, he is the one they will choose, in that respect, the game has moved on quickly.

“But Hart can still do a good job for someone in the Premier League and he may still go to the World Cup, though he cannot play in this game (against Manchester City) under the terms of his loan deal from City.”

Hart is currently on loan from Manchester City at the Hammers until the end of the season, and according to a report by the Daily Mirror, the London-based club are open to the idea of permanently signing the 6ft 4in tall goalkeeper.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper has featured 23 times for the Hammers this season, conceding 42 goals, while keeping six clean sheets.
