Liverpool fans on social media revealed they were devastated for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after hearing that the midfielder could miss the rest of the season.
The 24-year-old central midfielder was stretched off in the 18th minute of the Reds’ 5-2 victory over AS Roma on Tuesday after appearing to suffer a knee injury.
Oxlade-Chamberlain received lengthy treatment on the pitch as well as on the sidelines, before it was decided that he needed to be substituted.
Directly following Tuesday’s game, journalist James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo took to his personal Twitter account to report on the midfielder’s suspected knee injury.
Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury the sour note for #LFC tonight. Initial fears are that he will miss the rest of the season and the World Cup.

The reliable journalist claimed that initial fears regarding the injury suggested that Oxlade-Chamberlain could miss the rest of the season as well as this summer’s World Cup.
Jurgen Klopp also used his post-match conference following his side’s victory in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma at Anfield to provide an update on the midfielder’s injury.
“We don’t know exactly but if the medical department are quite concerned without a scan, you can imagine it’s difficult,” stated Klopp, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“We lost a fantastic player tonight, it’s not good news.”
Several Reds supporters took to Twitter to echo their manager’s sentiments that the potential loss of Oxlade-Chamberlain through injury wasn’t good news to receive.
One fan claimed that the 24-year-old was in the form of his life and that he was gutted for the midfielder as he could potentially miss the World Cup as well as the rest of the Reds’ campaign.
Another supporter opted to ignore the fact that the central midfielder could miss the World Cup and just revealed that they thought he could have made a difference in the second leg against Roma next Wednesday.
This is Futbol have rounded up some of the best tweets about Oxlade-Chamberlain’s performance:
Gutted for Oxlade-Chamberlain, in the form of his life and he gets an injury like that, possibly could miss the World Cup as well.
Hopefully he can come back stronger and as fast as possible. #LFC
