Liverpool put in one of their great all-time European performances on Wednesday night as they demolished Manchester City 3-0 at Anfield in the Champions League quarter-finals, and fans on Twitter were blown away by the display of left-back Andy Robertson.

The Reds took the game away from City in an incredible first-half display of tenacity and purpose which saw them bag three before half-time and seal a famous first-leg win that gives them a brilliant chance of progressing to the semi-finals.

Man-of-the-moment Mohamed Salah opened the scoring when he set Roberto Firmino free into the box, with the Brazilian’s saved shot finding its way back to the Egyptian who made no mistake with his finish.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then doubled their lead after just 20 minutes with a rasping right-footed drive that was past Ederson in the City goal before he could even dive.

Liverpool then found themselves 3-0 just after 30 minutes when Sadio Mane’s downward header found the corner to send Anfield into delirium.

City mounted a second-half comeback but could not find their way past a brilliant Liverpool defence made up of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren, Virgil van Dijk and the outstanding Robertson.

The former Hull City full-back, bought for just £8million last summer, is now a firm fan favourite at Anfield and fans took to Twitter after the game to rave about the 24-year-old’s performance.
