Everton boss Sam Allardyce is being lined up by West Bromwich Albion if he is sacked this summer, according to The Times

The newspaper report that the 63-year-old is coming under fire at Everton, with Saturday’s 0-0 draw against a weakened Liverpool side increasing that pressure.

The Times claim that Everton are likely to wait until the end of the season to make the big decision on his future, with the club to pay out a contract worth £6million a season should they let him go.

It is said that top-flight rivals West Brom are ready to offer the former England boss an immediate route back into football as they prepare for life in the Championship, with Allardyce’s record of bringing West Ham and Bolton up working in his favour.

OPINION

It is looking increasingly likely that Everton will let Allardyce go this summer. While he has done the job that he was brought in to do – steer the club clear of relegation – there remain some tough questions about his ability to take them any further than that. Owner Farhad Moshiri is a notoriously ambitious man, and Allardyce would not seem to fit the bill of being a manager who can spearhead a charge into the Premier League top six. West Brom would look like a good destination for him however, with the Baggies standing a good chance of bouncing straight back up next season.
