Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is eyeing up a move for West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jake Livermore should they achieve promotion to the Premier League, according to The Sun

The newspaper report that the 28-year-old is at the top of Villa’s wanted list, with Bruce needing to add quality if they do return to the top-flight next season.

The Sun claim that Villa would be able to secure Livermore for around £10million, with West Brom looking certain to go down to the Championship this summer.

Bruce signed Livermore while manager of Hull City and was in charge of the England midfielder during his failed drug test, with the former Spurs star testing positive for cocaine after the death of his new-born child.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Absolutely.

Livermore has vast Premier League experience with Tottenham, Hull and West Brom, and that will be key for a promoted team like Villa if they want to survive next season.

Villa’s current options in central midfield are decent for the Championship, but they need reinforcements if they get promoted, an Livermore is the perfect player to do that.

Likely to happen?

Well, West Brom look doomed to the drop, and that means that Livermore is likely to move on.

If Villa are serious about their interest and do get promoted, then you would think they are in a good position to secure his signature.

However, they first need to secure that promotion, which is far easier said than done.
