Newcastle should plot summer swoop for Reid

Newcastle United will need to invest heavily in the summer regardless of what division they are in and right now it seems like they will spend another season in the Premier League, with a four-point cushion over the drop zone.

Manager Rafael Benitez will be desperately hoping he is backed financially to add some serious quality at St James’ Park and one player that should be firmly on their radar is Bobby Reid at Bristol City.

The attacking midfielder has been ripping it up in the Championship and looks ready to make the next step in his career.

The Bristol Post report that Premier League side Bournemouth are keeping a close eye on Reid and have deployed their top recruitment staff to monitor him, while Burnley are also credited as interested.

It is understood that the 25-year-old has just one year remaining on his deal with Bristol City and that Bournemouth could submit a bid for him in the summer if he opts against extending his contract.

The report details that Reid wants to play in the Premier League ideally with the Robins, but discussions are set to take place about his future at the end of the season.

Reid is an advanced playmaker that has shown he is a serious goal threat and managed 19 in 44 games across all competitions this campaign.

The Englishman is the top scorer in the Championship (17) and that is without playing as a centre-forward.

He has shown he can arrive late into the box and is exactly the type of player that is needed in the Newcastle squad ahead of next season.

Ayoze Perez has an incredible work-rate for the team, but doesn’t add enough of a goal threat and Reid looks like he could chip in with his fair share.
