Everton have fallen someway short of expectations this season despite a considerable amount of spending last summer and it is clear they still need an influx of quality players to help them make the next step.
The Toffees certainly need to improve their options in wide areas as at times they have lacked width in Premier League games, with the likes of Yannick Bolasie and Nikola Vlasic struggling.
They should cast their eye over Stoke talisman Xherdan Shaqiri amid reported interest from Southampton.
The Daily Star reports that the Saints are planning a £20million raid for the right-winger, who is deemed by many as the most talented individual at Stoke.
It is understood that the 26-year-old will want to leave the bet365 Stadium if his side are relegated in their battle to beat the drop, but is not short of admirers.
The left-footed genius has just two years remaining on his deal and Everton should jump to the front of the queue if he becomes available, especially at a £20million fee that would represent great value for money.
Shaqiri is a wide man with great pedigree following spells with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, but he has also proven himself in England.
The fleet-footed winger has a low centre of gravity and a lethal shot that would make him a big hit at Goodison Park.
He has been in decent form this season for a struggling team, scoring seven goals and supplying six assists in 31 games across all competitions.
Shaqiri would definitely help fill a void at the Merseyside club and should be high on their wanted list for the summer window.
