Davinson Sanchez completed 90 minutes in the defeat to Juventus on Wednesday night – and Tottenham fans offered a mixed response on Twitter to his individual performance.
Spurs were beaten 2-1 at Wembley in midweek and that meant they bowed out of the Champions League group stages due to a 4-3 aggregate loss.
Heung-Min Son’s first-half goal set the North London club up for a place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition, but they were stunned by the experienced Italian giants in the second period.
Gonzalo Higuain’s header levelled the tie in the 64th minute and just three minutes later Paulo Dybala broke through on goal to clinch the winner.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side dominated the game for large spells during two legs, but were ultimately found out by Juventus’ clinical touch in front of goal.
A selection of Spurs fans on social media raved about centre-back Sanchez despite the defeat and feel he is a huge player for them.
The 21-year-old has been a regular feature during his first season in English football and become a mainstay for Pochettino.
However, some Spurs fans were critical of the youngster and believe his naivety cost the side in the Champions League.
Sanchez was unable to get close enough to prevent Sami Khedira assisting Higuain’s goal, while Dybala stormed through the heart of the defence for his goal.
