Aston Villa fans were furious on social media after a report revealed that Micah Richards could see his wages almost double next season.

The Daily Mail reported that Richards, who currently earns £35,000-a-week, would almost double his wages to £70,000-a-week if Steve Bruce’s team won promotion to the Premier League.

It is believed the 29-year-old centre-back is set to have talks in the summer over his contract, with his current deal expiring in 2019.

Richards has made no appearances for the Villans this season, despite being available to play the majority of the time, and hasn’t played a competitive game of football since October 2016.

The defender’s last outing was in Bruce’s first game in charge against Wolves, where he ended up being subbed off in the 63rd minute due to a calf injury.

Richards, according to the Daily Mail’s report, isn’t selected to play by the Aston Villa manager as he can’t be trusted to play two games in a week and due to this his involvement would unsettle the rhythm of the team.

The 29-year-old has been at the Villans since July 2015, but has only made a grand total of 31 appearances for the club.

After reading that the defender could get pay rise, several Aston Villa fans urged for the club to get rid of him on Twitter.
