Germany vs Spain Preview

|

The fixture between Germany and Spain during this international break is one that will always be a very exciting match up. Looking forward to the World Cup this summer, we can see both of these countries being amongst the favourites to win the tournament. With some of the strongest teams in the world, these two teams never fail to put up a fight when they clash.

Both countries have named very strong teams going into this international break and will without a doubt field a team that is going to be similar to the one that they will field during the World Cup. However, there are quite a few big names that have been left out of the squads for numerous reasons, which will impact the international friendlies odds for this match. Germany are missing world class goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with a broken foot as well as Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus who is being slowly returned to the national team. Spain left out notable players such as Alvaro Morata, Cesc Fabregas, and Pedro.

Throughout the years, this match up has proved to be almost unpredictable. In the 22 fixtures, Germany has won 9 games while Spain has won 7 and there were 6 ties. Their last encounter came during a friendly in November of 2014, which Germany won 1-0. However, their last encounter in a major competition came during the World Cup Semi-Final in 2010, which Spain won 1-0.

With match winners on both sides, it’s very hard to say which of these sides will come out on top but it’s worth noting that Germany were quite possibly the best team through qualifications. Die Mannschaft broke the record for most goals scored in a tournament qualification campaign with 43 goals. They also won all of their games in qualification for the World Cup.

Keeping all of this in mind, I predict that Germany will walk away winners, 2-1. With one eye on the World Cup, this game will start to get fans excited about the biggest sports event of the year. It is far too early to say, but these are two teams that the world will expect to see in the semi-finals.
